Kia ora

Well it’s almost a wrap. The final ForuM of 2022. When I first started in May this seemed a very long way off, yet now I can’t believe how quickly it has come.

Over the past seven months, I have learnt a huge amount, made a number of mistakes, but most importantly got to meet so many of you, our incredibly diverse, hardworking and talented members. Thank you for the whakawhanaungatanga, for making me feel so welcome and at home as part of your facilities management community.

I can’t thank our sponsors enough. Our corporate sponsors, event sponsors, and all those who got behind FM Summit. We simply couldn’t continue without your support. It is also a programme we couldn’t execute without our hardworking board and committees; again, a big ngā mihi from your operations team to you. We look forward to joining you at the online branch hui in February to listen to your feedback and share our plans.

The operations team and I have also just left two days locked up together planning for 2023. JJ, Lynda, Marjolein, Sara and I are looking forward to bringing you an educational, enjoyable and exciting FMANZ 2023.

Something else we have been strategising and planning is the work of the FMANZ Foundation. I am excited about the future and the role it can play as the leading incubator of diverse, excellent talent in Aotearoa. See below for more information and how you can help support this vision.

Speaking of good causes, in recognition of our speakers and your feedback at FM Summit, we donated just over $1700 to the Auckland City Mission. Every day the City Mission responds to poverty and great need in the city and I do love their ‘Why’ -  'Together we must, together we can, together we will'. During the festive season, life is so much harder for so many; the perfect time to do something to support those in need, perhaps your local city mission.

I look forward to working with you in 2023, continuing to elevate the importance of our profession, and answering some of those questions I asked when I started. How do we carry out the work we do? How do we unify and amplify our message about the important work we do? How do we move from being the unseen custodians to the visible heroes? We have a great story and one that is worth telling.

You have been the guardians of the spaces others get to enjoy, so now it’s your turn to be the guardians of your own whare and enjoy your friends and whānau. Have fun, be safe, look after those around you and enjoy your holiday season.

Meri Kirihimete me te tau hau! Have a lovely Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

PS
If, like me, you are tired of the city and needing to get your fun in the sun over the holiday season, here is a track I thought would help take you there.
