Can you believe we're already halfway through the year? Time flies when we're faced with changes and challenges at every turn. The results of our careers survey are now out, shedding light on the unique challenges in our workforce. In this rapidly evolving landscape, our buildings and facilities play a crucial role in tackling the pressing issues of our time, from promoting wellbeing to reducing carbon footprint. It's evident that going back to business as usual is no longer enough. That's why we're excited to announce that registrations for Te Hui Taumata a FM Summit Aotearoa 2023, are now open.

We're putting the finishing touches on the program, guided by the powerful whakatuki: "He iti hau marangai e tū te pāhokahoka" - challenges lead to success, just like a rainbow after a storm. Keep an eye out for updates.

Oh, and speaking of deadlines, for those of you who still need to polish up your awards entry, we've extended the deadline to June 12th. The response has been amazing, with so many talented individuals eager to show off their achievements and get recognised among their peers.

On World FM Day, it was great to absorb all the updates from the Green Property Summit alongside a number of our members. Anita Potgieter from ASB and Tracy Massam from Tāmaki Regeneration have also shared their insights in this news piece. Developments in this space are coming at us like a freight train! We look forward to keeping you in the loop.

CAREERS & SALARY SURVEY

We are excited to share the findings from our recent careers and salary survey. This member-only report explores what employers look for when hiring for a senior role, what motivates FMs to change jobs, how much you can expect to be paid, what bonuses and benefits companies offer, and much more.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in the survey. Your valuable input sheds light on critical aspects such as recruitment and retention and will help us to shape a vibrant and thriving industry.

In order to monitor progress and identify emerging trends, we plan to conduct the survey biennially. With your input, we look forward to witnessing the evolution of our industry over the coming years.

THE GREEN PROPERTY SUMMIT THROUGH AN FM LENS

The Green Property Summit in Auckland on 10 May coincided with World FM Day so it was fitting to receive recognition from the Green Building Council for the critical role facilities management plays in this space.

"FM plays a pivotal role in driving sustainability and ensuring the efficient operation of buildings and there were lots of discussions emphasising the significance of our existing buildings and their role in sustainability," says FMANZ CEO Jo Duggan.

Colour Schemes – Colour advice from Resene commercial colour consultants can provide an efficient way of reaching a decision on your new colours. Their knowledge is valuable for matching appropriate colours to specific substrates.
For larger sites digital colour renders of the new colour scheme will provide clarity on where the new colours are to be painted and will link in with the site-specific paint specification. Colour renders and paint specifications reduce the chance of issues at the time of painting.
Bright colour selections should be communicated to all parties as often tinted undercoats and/or an additional topcoat is required – and bright colours will cost more for the painting contractor to purchase.

Look out for – Quotes based on 'white' colours only, or two topcoats only. The painting contractor may request a 'variation' to their quote if bright colours or additional coats are required.
