The Hard and Soft Side of Acoustics in the Workplace
FMANZ Auckland - join us for an informative & social networking event

Acoustic: noun, plural noun: acoustics
  1. the properties or qualities of a room or building that determine how sound is transmitted in it.

In any office or commercial building, a good acoustic environment means a good work environment and improved efficiency. The acoustic design of commercial buildings draws in a number of acoustic disciplines including room acoustics design of presentation spaces, speech intelligibility of open and closed offices, careful consideration of atria and transition spaces, sound system design and mechanical services noise control.

Focusing on the workplace, James Whitlock from Marshall Day Acoustics introduces us to the fundamentals of acoustics and sheds light on some common misconceptions. He'll also discuss acoustic priorities and explain how an acoustician thinks about a space.
Pete Matatahi from Fuze Interiors will focus on acoustics as part of a holistic design approach to creating highly productive work spaces.

Join us for a relaxing event, surrounded by a somewhat different than usual facility at Giltrap Volkswagen, Grey Lynn.

With thanks to Test & Tag and Giltrap Volkswagen for sponsoring this event.

James Whitlock
James is an associate with Marshall Day Acoustics in Auckland with 17 years' experience in the field.  He is involved in most aspects of acoustic design but spends most of his time these days on projects involving construction noise and vibration, road noise and classroom acoustics.
He is the past-President and current Secretary of the Acoustical Society of New Zealand, is on the council of the National Foundation for the Deaf, and on two committees for developing acoustic standards in NZ and Australia.

He has two noisy kids and spends his weekends either at the track in his budget (and noisy) race car, or playing drums noisily (the irony of which isn't lost on him).

Pete Matatahi
Pete Matatahi, is the Group Development manager for Fuze Interiors and their family of design, fit out and furniture firms and has been involved in the fit out industry for the past 12 years. Pete has a keen interest in acoustics as part of a holistic design approach to creating highly productive work spaces.

Pete is also a member of the FMANZ Auckland committee and spends his spare time with his energetic daughter or chasing a ball around on a beach volleyball or tennis court
