An exciting opportunity awaits to join Ngāi Tahu Property as a Senior Facilities Manager. Based in Christchurch, this senior role will take the lead on facilities management operations within Ngāi Tahu Property, contributing to the company’s intergenerational commitment and sustainable vision. The primary focus of the role is to support the Manager Assets and Facilities with the maintenance, operation and presentation of the Ngāi Tahu Property portfolio and the Ngāi Tahu Runanga corporate accommodation. The ideal candidate will have the ability to provide a high level of customer satisfaction and possess strong relationship building and conflict management skills to maximise the performance of the portfolio in alignment with the values of Ngāi Tahu. The role incorporates property maintenance, contracts, and compliance, while fostering relationships with stakeholders. The successful candidate will have 10 years’ facilities management experience and a demonstrated knowledge in building systems, particularly retail and commercial properties. This time last week, our Auckland members had the opportunity to peek behind the curtain at the Reclaim recycling facilities. The tour was such a hit that we quickly arranged a second session to meet the demand. Witnessing the journey of our recycling post-collection was truly enlightening. Established in 1974, Reclaim underscored the urgent need for educational strategies within our buildings. Facility managers have a unique opportunity to subtly educate building occupants about responsible waste disposal. The experience was a sobering reality check for many, highlighting that there's always room for improvement in our waste management practices. A huge thank you to the Reclaim team— Nathalia Gonzales, Samantha Samania, and Bruce Ireland —for opening their doors to us, and to Hannah Welsby from our Auckland committee for spearheading this initiative. Last week our Canterbury members had the privilege of visiting another remarkable site - the under-construction Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre, hosted by Rau Paenga Limited. They received a guided tour of both 'wet' and 'dry' sports areas, along with spaces designed for high-performance athletes and administration functions. Many were impressed by the facility's scale and features. This tour provided a valuable opportunity to learn more as the venue nears completion. For more details, visit: https://lnkd.in/gZWzhP-i. Parakiore, spanning over 30,000m², is being delivered by Rau Paenga for the eventual owner, Christchurch City Council. The centre will boast a 50-metre, 10-lane competition swimming pool, a separate diving pool, a large aquatic leisure area, five hydroslides, fitness spaces, and nine indoor courts for sports like netball, volleyball, and basketball. The facility aims to cater to the recreational, educational, and high-performance sporting communities. Last Wednesday we were lucky enough to invite our key sponsors for an exclusive invite to dive underground and visit the Te Waihorotiu Station of the City Rail Link Ltd Project. The new 15m-deep 300m long underground mid-town station near Wellesley and Victoria Streets is expected to be the country’s busiest train station. It’s also future-proofed for any future government decision to create a North Shore rail line.It was great to see the design coming to life. A design that reflects Mana Whenua with Māoritanga intrinsically woven throughout. The Total Energy Centre Wellington Hospital Tour had an outstanding turnout from our FMANZ members in Wellington.   Steve Pardoe, Theo Ferreira, and David Belworthy guided us through the intricate tunnels beneath the hospital, offering valuable insights into the operations of Wellington Hospital. From 2.5MW generators and steam boilers to kilometers of pipes, we traced the evolution of construction techniques from the 1970s to 2023. We also learned firsthand about the challenges the team encounters in maintaining operational excellence while executing impressive repairs.   Assisting the team in this challenge were Sheniel Sen and Philip Jones from the BIM team, showcasing the hospital's advanced BIM modeling and digital twin setup.   The tour's highlight and best-kept secret was our visit to the helipad. We all agreed it offers the best view of the hospital, and it's the only way we'd want to see it!
